6063 aluminum alloy, the No.1 material for windows and doors profile
6063 aluminum alloy is a typical representative of the Al-Mg-Si series alloys, has excellent extrudability and weldability, and is the number one material for window and door profile. Its characteristics are that under the temperature and speed conditions of pressure processing, its plasticity performance and corrosion resistance are high; there is no tendency of stress corrosion; and during welding, its corrosion resistance does not actually decrease.
During heat treatment, 6063 alloy undergoes intense strengthening. The main strengthening phases in the alloy are Mg₂Si and AlSiFe. If the tensile strength of the 6063 alloy extruded profiles in the annealed state is 98 – 117.6 MPa, then after quenching and natural aging, it can increase to 176.4 – 196 MPa, and at this time, the relative elongation decreases slightly (from 23% – 25% to 15% – 20%). The alloy can obtain better strength performance at 160 – 170℃ through artificial aging, the tensile strength can increase to 269.5 – 285.2 MPa. However, during artificial aging, the plasticity performance drops sharply. The interval time between quenching and artificial aging has a significant impact on the strengthening degree of 6063 alloy. As the interval time increases from 15 minutes to 4 hours, the tensile strength and yield strength decrease by 29.4 – 39.2 MPa. The temperature holding time during artificial aging has no significant impact on the mechanical properties of the 6063 alloy semi-finished products.
